About Us

Stony Brook University's Institute for Advanced Neurosciences is comprised of a multi-disciplinary team of clinical professionals who provide comprehensive medical and surgical care for a wide range of diseases and disorders of the brain, the spine, and the nervous system throughout the continuum of care. Staffed with locally and nationally recognized leaders in their fields, the Centers of the Institute bring together clinical and academic excellence, state-of-the-art facilities with minimally invasive technology, and a compassionate, patient-centered approach to provide quality care and outcomes for our patients.

Few institutions can match the Centers of the Institute for Advanced Neuosciences in terms of medical expertise or facilities. We stand as the only academic and Level 1 trauma center in Suffolk County and eastern Nassau County. Our Cerebrovascular and Stroke Center has been accredited by the Department of Health and The Joint Commission (TJC). We are home to an ALS Center of excellence. All of our clinicians are on the faculty at Stony Brook University, enabling them to combine specialized clinical practice with teaching and clinical and translational research. As faculty of a major research university, the physicians of the Institute have the resources to participate in cutting-edge clinical trials and innovative research. This deep comitment to clinical and basic research contributes to our ability to offer our patients the latest in technology and treatment for their neurological conditions.

Our physicians are supported by a team of medical professionals that include physician assistants, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and social workers as well as the administrative support staff to help guide you throughout your care experience. The Institute for Advanced Neurosciences partners with specialized core services at Stony Brook such as Neuro-radiology, Neuropathology, Neuro-ophthalmology, Chronic Pain Management, and Physical and Occupational Therapy.
